Do you think your driving hours are bad? Check out this article. The parents of quintuplets (yup, you heard right) are facing over 600 hours of driving time! Do you think it's right to require this much practice time for teenagers? Or do you have a better idea for the system?

An Aussie teen used his cellphone to film a constable telling him off using extraordinarily colourful language. Now the constable is up for trial. Is this a fair fight? Have you ever had a similar experience? Was the constable just giving him hard love? Or should he lose his job?

I think being responsible means looking at the results of your actions. So if you get really drunk you might do something stupid or get in a fight. If you think about that before and then you choose to drink less, then that is being responsible.

I saw an advertisement for Chivas the other day, I think it's an alcohol and I don’t even drink it, but it was about guys living with chivalry like old-school knights. It was about having a code of conduct and honour, and I liked the sound of that. Guys should be more like that.

What do you think is an acceptable limit for texts per day?

I think it would be good if teenagers could vote from whatever age they felt they were ready. It’s true that parents and friends could influence our votes but they are still secret in the end, and you could be just as influenced by your friends when you are thirty. It would be a great chance to have our voices heard.

People don't seem to want to take responsibility for anything bad like crime or pollution or obesity, but they are always ready to say that they did something good or made some money or won something. We need to learn to be responsible for the good and the bad as well.

One really important thing to take responsibility for is your health. It is nobody else's fault if you are sick. It really isn't. It might not seem fair that things happen to you but you have to take responsibility for your own health, because no one else will do it for you.

The Environment

  • 010_EV
Everyone says "help the environment", but do they really do it themselves? It's not that hard to pick up some rubbish as you walk by or recycle a few bottles, and it's not too difficult to start a compost heap. Small and simple acts will help the environment.

eBay is really good for the environment. It's online so it doesn’t use paper, and it’s a way for people to recycle stuff. You can get a surfboard from someone that doesn't need it anymore or you can sell your CDs. It means people buy less new stuff and chuck out less old stuff.

All the classrooms at our school have boxes to collect waste paper. That way we don’t chuck out stuff that could be re-used. It’s amazing how much paper you waste at school. A really great way to save water is to keep a bucket in the shower. Use it to catch the water that is wasted while you get the temperature right. Then tip it into your washing machine and use it. If you use natural laundry detergent you can then tip it on the garden.

During the winter months, it can get quite chilly in our usually cosy family home. During winter our electricity use spirals out of control, but there are some environmentally friendly ways of keeping warm. I think if more people lived together it would be better for the environment. Someone who lives by themself has the same sort of space and power and rubbish as people who live together. If more people lived with family and friends there would be less wasted space, and it would be more social.

My family is big on recycling. We recycle everything, and while it's sometimes tiresome to remember where certain bits of rubbish go, it’s very worthwhile. Composting is a great way to recycle food scraps, because not only does it help the environment but it also helps your garden.

My family has started a garden out in the back and we put our grey water on it. That means the water from the washing machine and the kitchen sink all gets used a second time. If we could always use things two or three times, there would be much less waste.
